Remoto releases v1.7 of Playback, its biggest update yet.

In an industry where executing a creative vision demands immediacy and clarity in communication and collaboration, Remoto is doubling down on its "built-by-pros-but-made-for-everyone” philosophy.

Founded by post-production veterans, Remoto focuses on developing purpose-built software that addresses the high-pressure realities of technical excellence, artistry, security, and tight deadlines.

Their flagship platform, Playback, has emerged as a powerful real-time collaboration tool. It allows creators to stream high-quality video and audio directly from their creative software to clients and collaborators anywhere in the world. By prioritizing a "same-room" experience and utilizing a unique, contract-free, pay-per-use model, Playback eliminates the traditional technical and financial hurdles associated with remote collaboration workflows.

This week, the company pulled back the curtain on Version 1.7, marking the most significant update to Playback to date.

Enhanced Monitoring and Global Collaboration
This update offers new ways for creators to review and collaborate:
  • Expanded Hardware Support: Playback now supports HDMI and SDI video and audio output via Blackmagic Design devices. This allows viewers to route live streams to external broadcast monitors or projectors, facilitating high-end screenings.

●  Mobile Review via iOS: A new companion app for iPhone and iPad allows guests to join sessions with full-quality H.265 streams. Notably for sound professionals, the app supports on- the-fly downmixing from 5.1 or 7.1 audio.
Real-Time Annotation: To streamline feedback, users can now draw and highlight directly over
the live video stream. The tool is optimized for low latency, ensuring all participants see feedback
instantly.

Streamlining the Workflow

Beyond the creative review tools, Remoto has introduced several "quality-of-life" improvements aimed at helping users get into sessions faster, and ensuring a glitch-free experience:
  • Pre-Session Network Testing: To prevent technical interruptions during high-stakes client calls,a new pre-flight test evaluates bandwidth and latency for both hosts and guests, providing warnings and recommendations before the session begins.
  • Instant Connectivity: The new "Instant Session" flow uses saved presets to launch collaborations faster, while a new Contacts system utilizes “typeahead” search to quickly assemble groups based on past sessions.

Enterprise and Security Updates

For larger facilities and studios, the 1.7 update brings a more robust Admin Panel. Administrators now have access to granular, session-level data - including duration, credit usage, and technical specs—to assist with internal reporting and resource management. This is paired with a streamlined authentication process to simplify user onboarding across large organizations.

The Bottom Line

With Version 1.7, Remoto continues to challenge the industry’s reliance on scattered email threads,
cumbersome file uploads, and costly cloud hosting for remote collaboration. Combining high-fidelity
technical specs with a flexible, usage-based pricing model, Playback remains a singular option for teams looking to scale their workflows globally without the burden of long-term commitments.

The update is now live and can be accessed through Remoto’s desktop app, available at https://remotopro.io/download, and via their mobile app on the iOS App Store.
