We sat down with Dan Poole, Jeremy Shaw, and JD Evans at Sound Disposition’s Fitzrovia facility to talk through the making of Section 1591, a survivor-led documentary exploring sex trafficking in the United States, seven years in the making.

The conversation explores the responsibility of telling a story this sensitive, the creative decisions made in post-production, and what it means to collaborate thoughtfully when the material carries real emotional weight. From working across multiple locations and facilities to navigating post without a traditional post supervisor, the team share how the process evolved and why trust, communication, and structure were essential.

They also discuss how sound and picture worked together to shape the emotional experience of the film, the challenges of editing trauma without sensationalising it, and the realities of sustaining a long-form documentary over several years.

Content note: This interview discusses sensitive topics, including child sex trafficking.
