The sanitised rig is in a couple of boxes, and can be shipped anywhere. We supply the rig, plus the remote recordist, plus technical support in setting up, plus Covid-safe transportation if required.
We’ve sent rigs abroad to countries including India and Argentina, set up temporary studios in A-Listers houses and in nearby rental properties, and dealt all manner of remote locations and challenging conditions.
Our rigs are designed to be super-simple for cast to set up and are completely remote controllable. If needed or preferred, we can also set the rig up for the artist (of course wearing full PPE). The experience for the artist, once set up, is much like being in a booth – they have a single screen with video, streamers, and nothing else. The remote engineer is able to mix in real time and stream to a number of down-the-line observers.
You can read about the system at: http://sounddisposition.com/remote-adr
We’ve made it as simple as humanly possible to set up – it takes around 15-20mins, and involves only plugging in about 4 cables – 2 mics plus headphones. We send it with industry-standard mics – normally a Schoeps CMIT or Neumann U87 plus DPA lav (though can match pretty much any mic if needed). We check out their recording space in advance and if needed can supply sound blankets plus supports. The artist doesn’t need to operate any controls – in fact during the session, all they can see is the video screen plus cues / streamers as required. All cues are prepared in advance, and videos are pre-loaded and encrypted.
Once plugged in, we can remote control everything – even mic gain. The recording happens at their end (so is completely free from compression or transmission issues), and is streamed in perfect sync to the recordist and to the ADR supervisor and director (and others if required), all of who can be in different places and all of whom can talk to the artist. Viewers down the line can see the session in progress and speak to the actor, and if required we can supply a secondary screen so the actor can see and interact with the director or other participants.
