The studio’s VFX team helped director William Eubank bring his vision to life, comprising an almost two-hour action spectacle about the ambush of a special forces military team and their escape.

PFX was one of the VFX vendors that worked on this blockbuster together with Australian studio Cutting Edge. “It was a great experience to work with William and the Cutting Edge crew,“ says PFX producer Tomáš Srovnal. “We very much appreciated the enormous amount of prep work that went into every VFX shot on set. This made our job so much efficient,” he adds.
The Czech studio worked on approximately 90 shots over the course of three months. Their team of twenty artists was led by respected VFX supervisor and member of the Visual Effects Society (VES) Jindřich Červenka, who has lent his expertise to many award-winning local and international projects. “It was a lot of fun,” says Červenka. “We truly enjoyed working on all the explosions, gunfire and aerial shots,” he continues. The most challenging assignment was a full CGI drone sequence which required a lot of research and preparation to ensure that it would be as realistic as possible.
Nevertheless, the team managed to execute the sequence to the director’s full satisfaction. “Working with PFX on Land of Bad was an incredible experience. Their ability to embrace a highly collaborative approach allowed us to work seamlessly, transforming creative challenges into some truly exhilarating cinematic moments,” director William Eubank describes their collaboration. “Despite the tight schedule, their team delivered phenomenal work and tackled the most challenging shots with remarkable creativity and efficiency. PFX’s collaborative spirit made all the difference, and I am thrilled with the results. Truly a top-tier partner, I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again,” he continues.
The international collaboration on this project once again proved that it is nowadays possible to work all across the globe. “One of the challenges we faced was to coordinate the project across three continents,” says Srovnal. “Prague and Bratislava, where we operate, is right in the middle between the US and Australia, so we had to adjust our work hours accordingly. But the smooth collaboration with the rest of the team kept us motivated and looking forward to every meeting that propelled the film forward,” he concludes.
PFX has long served as one of the largest post-production studios in Central Europe. In addition to commercial projects, it boasts a repertoire of films and television series for streaming platforms HBO, Netflix, Amazon and Apple TV. The studio also creates and produces 3D animated films, such as the highly-anticipated film The Last Whale Singer. PFX currently operates in Czechia and Slovakia and is also planning to expand to other countries.
Global acclaim for Czech visual effects
Czech post-production studio PFX was proud to accept a prestigious award from the American VES (Visual Effects Society). At last night’s award ceremony in Los Angeles, VFX supervisor Javier Menéndez Platas accepted the golden statue on behalf of his team in the category of Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode for their work on the second season of the HBO television series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

PFX served as part of an international team helmed by VFX supervisor Raymond McIntyre and VFX producer Victor DiMichina. The studio was one of two main visual effects suppliers for the publicly and critically acclaimed series about the golden era of the L.A. Lakers basketball team set in the 1980s. Javier Menéndez Platas led a creative team of artists whose main task was to create crowd scenes in CG stadiums, which happens to be one of the Czech studio’s main specialties. “I’m happy we had the chance to showcase our expertise in these extremely technically demanding scenes,” says Menéndez Platas of his team’s success. “I am very grateful for this award, both personally and on behalf of our team, because working with Raymond and Victor has been an amazing experience,” he adds.
Javier Menéndez Platas is well known in the visual effects community. His professional career in the Czech Republic is tied to the PFX studio, where he has worked his way up the position of VFX supervisor. Last year, the undeniable quality of his work landed him and fellow supervisor at PFX, Jindřich Červenka, full-fledged membership in the VES. He has numerous Czech projects under his belt, such as the award-winning film Okupace, which took home several Czech Lions, as well as international feature films such as Ridley Scott’s Napoleon and the TV series Stranger Things and Orville.
